Welcome to the 2008/2009 Season Brymbo Lodge Youth Football Club
The 2008/2009 season kicked off with our club having new teams, new players and new managers, with varying results.
Our new Under 8 team, managed by Shaun Gould, included 6 and 7 year old boys and girls. Unfortunately the experience of playing a match at Cheshire View, Brymbo on Sunday was new to all of them, and they lost all 4 games against a Marchwiel side that had played together for a while. But full credit to them, they enjoyed the occasion
New managers Andrew Lewis and Carl Williams have brought together the Under 10's, after the departure of last years managers. To date 18 youngsters have signed for the team, but similar to the Under 8's they also lost all 4 games against Marchwiel. Andrew said he was hoping for better things in the next few weeks, but said the next training session was 'all about defending'.
Another pair of new managers at the club, Graham Halliwell and Richard Hughes have taken over the Under 11 team. Their first game in control took them to Marford/Gresford where the team won 1 and lost 3 games. Graham was upbeat about the performance, but said he was still looking for a few more players for his squad.
The under 12's and Under 14's both played their first games at home at Solway Banks with different outcomes. For the Under 12's, coached by Wayne Scott, Gary Crompton and Tom Holland, it was a new experience playing competitive 11 a side football and the team lost 0-7 to FC Marford/Gresford.
Nigel Edwards and Shaun Gould's Under 14's have had 2 years at 11 a side football and it showed with a good 5-3 win against Johnstown.
Paul Johns, Dean Holmes and Andy Jones continue to coach the Under 13's, and hope to follow on from their successful season at Under 12's. The team continued in good style giving a goal away, but coming back to win 3-1 at Chirk.
Once again, the older lads, our Under 15's will be run by Tony Birch with assistance from Alan Crump, Wayne Vernon and Jason Edwards. The league has granted them a couple of free weeks at the start of the season.
